Privacy Policy for Recordo Screen Recorder

We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This privacy policy explains how Recordo (“we”, “our”, or “the extension”) handles your data when you use our Chrome extension.

What Information Do We Collect?

Recordo is designed with privacy in mind. We collect minimal information necessary for the extension to function:

  • Recording Data: When you create a screen recording, the video and audio data is processed entirely on your device. We do not have access to your recordings.
  • Extension Settings: Your audio preferences (system audio, microphone, mouse clicks) are stored locally on your device using Chrome’s local storage.
  • Recording Metadata: Temporary information like recording start time is stored locally to display the timer. This data is deleted when you close the extension or clear your browser data.

What Information Do We NOT Collect?

We want to be completely transparent about what we don’t collect:

  • We do not collect your personal information such as name, email address, or contact details.
  • We do not collect your browsing history or the websites you visit.
  • We do not collect any content from your screen recordings.
  • We do not track your usage patterns or behavior.
  • We do not collect any data about your device or browser beyond what Chrome requires for extension functionality.
  • We do not share any information with third parties because we don’t collect any information to share.

How Do We Use Your Information?

Since we don’t collect your personal information or recordings, there’s nothing to use. All processing happens locally on your device:

  • Screen recordings are created and stored entirely on your computer.
  • Audio settings and preferences are saved locally for your convenience.
  • No data is transmitted to our servers or any external services.

Why Do We Need Permissions?

Recordo requires certain permissions to function properly. Here’s why we need each one:

  • Desktop Capture: This permission allows the extension to access Chrome’s screen recording API so you can select and record your screen, tabs, or windows.
  • Storage: We use local storage to remember your audio preferences and temporarily store recording metadata (like start time) during a recording session.
  • Tabs: This permission allows us to open the recorder interface in a new tab and enable mouse click visual effects across your open tabs during recording.
  • Scripting: We use this to inject a small script into web pages that shows visual click indicators during recording. This script only adds visual effects and doesn’t access or modify any website content.
  • Active Tab: This allows the extension to access the currently active tab when you click the extension icon.
  • All URLs: This permission is needed so the click visualization feature works on any website you’re recording. The script we inject only adds visual effects and doesn’t collect or send any data.

Data Storage and Security

All your data stays on your device:

  • Screen recordings are saved directly to your computer’s download folder. We never see or access these files.
  • Extension settings are stored locally in Chrome’s storage system, which only your browser can access.
  • We don’t have servers that store your data because we don’t collect any data to store.
  • Your recordings are yours alone – we cannot access them even if we wanted to.

Third-Party Services

Recordo does not use any third-party services, analytics tools, or tracking software. Everything happens locally on your device. We don’t integrate with any external services that could collect your data.

Children’s Privacy

Recordo is safe for users of all ages. Since we don’t collect any personal information or data, there are no special concerns regarding children’s privacy. All recordings remain on the user’s device.

Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

  • You can delete any recordings you create at any time by simply deleting the files from your computer.
  • You can clear extension data by going to Chrome Settings > Extensions > Recordo > Details > Clear storage.
  • You can uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all locally stored settings.
  • Since we don’t collect any data, there’s nothing for us to provide or delete from our side.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make any significant changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy.
